Vision/Mission
Vision
We are here to reclaim our voices and to empower our fellow creatives, and occupy our space within the Arts & Culture industry of our city. Our vision is to be the umbrella organization for BIPOC by BIPOC. We envision having a facility and studio space, with both being fully equipped with support staff, office space, and resources (production equipment, funding, training, workshops, and research). These resources will provide access and empowerment for people in the association to create without barriers, bringing their vision to life.
Mission
It is our mission to inform and reform our city of Vancouver and to work together to bring much-needed change!
Our current mandates consist of:
Advocating for a Cultural Centre: hold the city accountable for its commitment to build a centre that authentically represents our Black and Indigenous musicians and artists. This state-of-the-art space will facilitate creative production and promote culture and inclusion from across BC.
Anti-Racism: we seek to help overcome anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism by including Arts & Culture within BC schools/art programs. Change is formulated by motivating our youth, and Art & Culture are the tools to advance change.
Appropriation: we stand up to stop the appropriation of our music and culture for profit and without the authentic representation of our local Black and Indigenous artists.
Recognize & Commemorate: our objective is to recognize and commemorate our cultural contributions to this beautiful city and province.
Equality: we support equal representation in art galleries, music venues, and community events because art is for everyone!
End White Dominance: we recognize that white dominance has become a societal norm in our city; therefore, we seek to galvanize BIPOC to carry major roles within Arts Organizations.
